Georgia's PMI will continue to demonstrate growth for its manufacturing sector. However, its current high levels may not be sustainable."

M&D Sector Deal Volume Pulls Back From Recent Highs
M&A activity in the Manufacturing & Distribution (M&D) sector in 2015 was slightly ahead of 2014 levels, making 2015 the second most active post-recession year on record. However, a deeper dive into the details revealed an alarming trend. The pace of closings began to slow in Q3 and then dropped off materially in December 2015 and January 2016, down 10.4 percent and 20.8 percent, respectively, from comparable year-earlier periods. While financial buyers steadily purchased M&D companies throughout the year, strategic buyers pulled back in the second half.

Linking ISO 9001:2015 to Business Leadership, Strategy and Performance

The updated ISO 9001:2015 requirements, more specifically “Leadership”, “Risk Based Thinking” and “Context of the Organization”, have many components linking QMS standards to business management systems, leadership involvement, and strategic planning that were not previously required. The newly required alignment involves the entire organization, a more comprehensive approach to improved performance, process, and quality.

January 2016 - Georgia’s Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) — a reading of economic activity in the state’s manufacturing sector — decreased 0.5 points during January. The most-improved area was Finished Inventory; up 16 points in January. The Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) Report is underwritten by the Manufacturing and Distribution Group of Smith & Howard, a top Atlanta CPA firm with a focus on serving manufacturing businesses, and is produced monthly by the Econometric Center at Kennesaw State University.
