The Georgia International Business Index (GIBI) Report is underwritten by the Manufacturing and Distribution Group of Smith & Howard, a top Atlanta accounting firm, and is produced quarterly by the Econometric Center at Kennesaw State University.
The GIBI increased 14.8 points, from 47.7 for fourth quarter 2014 to 62.5 for first quarter 2015 based on increases in all underlying variables.

Who is a real property broker under the passive activity loss rules?

In Chief Counsel Advice (CCA), IRS has concluded that a real estate agent who brings together buyers and sellers of real property can be a so-called “real estate professional” who is engaged in a real property brokerage trade or business as described in Code Sec. 469(c)(7)(C) of the passive activity loss (PAL) rules. However, a mortgage broker who is a broker of financial instruments isn't engaged in a real property brokerage trade or business.

There are numerous tax compliance and financial accounting implications related to the Tangible Property “Repair” Regulations (“Regulations”). The implementation of these Regulations will likely require multiple, annual tax elections and tax accounting method changes. These Regulations affect capitalizations procedures and policies related to acquisition, production, and improvement of tangible property and will affect the determination of current taxable income, deferred income taxes, and liabilities for uncertain tax benefits (“FIN 48”).
